Martin Lafontaine

Chief Commercial Officer, Locemia Solutions

Martin is the Chief Commercial Officer of Montreal-based pharmaceutical development company Locemia Solutions. He possesses more than 16 years of experience in the pharmaceutical and medical device industry, having spent a major part of his professional career working for the British multinational GlaxoSmithkline, where he occupied various leadership positions, both in North America and abroad, with a strong focus in the area of diabetes.

A passionate and versatile professional with an impressive track record, Martin sought to broaden his horizons by serving as an advisor to or member of the Board of Directors of several non-profit organizations, such as U.S.-based AYUDA (American Youth Understanding of Diabetes Abroad) and the Behavioral Diabetes Institute, as well as project HOPE UK, an organization Martin joined forces with in 2010, playing a pivotal role in the launch of the organization’s landmark South African program, “The Thoughful Path,” which has the great honor to be sponsored by Archbishop Desmond Tutu.. In the wake of his work in South Africa, Martin was featured in the National Post’s Heroes of 2010.

Diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age 13, Martin is a model for people living with diabetes. An accomplished athlete and now business man, he urges his peers to live a limitless life and realize their full potential. Martin’s inspiring story of living a limitless life with diabetes has recently been highlighted in the the book My Sweet Life: Successful Men with Diabetes.
